Malmutants
Malmutants
objects

They were created from old clothes, never worn. The remnants of the past mangled by the shredder are utilised in the work: old notebooks, scraps of newspapers, notes and collected bits of paper, such as advertising leafl ets, women’s mags—consumerist rubbish. The objects symbolically represent us; the clothes—an outer layer, a skin within which the artist has enclosed a memory about our past which we carry within us.
The Malmutants, which fill our minds and bodies with the useless reminiscing about the past, become parasites, which devour our present existence. They are responsible for our absence in the here and now. While the exhibition runs, the artist wants to encourage us to free ourselves symbolically of our own past by bringing it to the gallery, in order to create our own Malmangled and destroying it.
