The Map
work made for New Territories – exhibition in Pavillao 28, Lisbon

The initial idea for this piece came from an old paper map of Europe with clearly visible borders between countries, made on some good quality kind of paper.
 I started to sew over it with the machine, marking the traces of migrations. My intention was to picture how cultural influences can shape each other through this process of communication. I also sew by hands using different colors of threads, cottons, nylons, and other fibers.
 I sew very “thick” one next to another and on the another, thus in that process of “weaving” the paper map old borders had fallen apart and the new map with traces have appeared. 
The threads have created a structure of “the only true Europe”, in the same time the brand new textile object started to exist.
