For Gombrowicz from his Compartiots
sculpture – monument made for 4th Art Boom Festival

The sculpture subversly commemorates the Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz, a controversial figure in conflict with Polish society in the interwar period.
 Gombrowicz favoured youth and childhood, exposing innocence and immaturity in contrast to society’s serious sense of self-importance. He took risks in opposing the status quo, balancing between the established conventions and views of an outsider. He is a difficult writer to grasp and define, one who constantly escapes understanding and is therefore still fascinating and alive today.
 The sculpture is a combination of a see-saw and a bench. It forms a skewed surface, challenging the user to balance between the two opposing sides: Gombrowicz and society. The two horse heads placed on each end are faced in opposite directions.
