The project was created for a competition announced by the Museum of the City of Krakow. Due to the topic of the exclusion of women from collective memory, which is of interest to me, most strongly manifested in the lack of monuments dedicated to them, I decided to take part in it. It must be said clearly – women do not have monuments, which makes it impossible to remember them.

Commemorating all those people, in this case market women, who have been overlooked so far, who have not been accorded due respect and memory, is a very important issue in building and telling the history of the city. After all, thanks to these women, traders, Krakow had something to eat. They came every morning from the villages near Krakow, delivering fresh vegetables, bread, fruit and cheese. So I see the Krakow street vendor as a symbolic monument also in honor of all breadwinners. Because it was women who used the kitchen to rule and change the course of history. Krakow could not function without them. Thinking about the monument, I didn’t want it to be a cast. I wanted it to be colorful and light. In the solution I propose, it refers to toys from the Krakow Workshops. I used geometrization and simplification of the solid, thanks to which the figure is legible and visible from a considerable distance. In the original project, I introduced color to the sculpture, which I resigned from when making the sculpture for the exhibition at the Bunkier Sztuki Gallery. An important aspect is that the Market Woman rocks slightly from side to side. A bit like a toy “wańka wstanka” and a bit like an elderly woman walking slowly, or like a ticking bomb.
