The work White/Grey Dress consists of two dresses, joined at the sides. Each one is therefore incomplete; only half of the whole. Both exist in close codependence. The dress contains both duality and a split, an inner rupture and incompleteness: two polarities, two opposites. Not by exclusion, however. It can, apparently, be one; one on top of the other; or one under the other. The white, offi cial, dress is used for important occasions; to celebrate baptism, first communion or marriage. It shows dirt and stains. This is the dress in which the woman appears outside the house; the dress functions in the public sphere. Questions arise about the public and private spaces, about the identity of the woman and how it is manifested. One dress―two women?
